Vlog: Cartalk Volvo V40 D2 Paint Repair

Two small stone chips on the Volvo V40 D2 (MY2013) that resulted in the paint peeling of, the Volvo was send of to the paint shop. However, we also found out that the right hand (rear) door wouldn't open anymore and had to be repaired also. The result is shown in this vlog.

Two small stone chips on the Volvo V40 (MY2013) and a door slammed into the door of my BMW 320i (MY2007 / E90) and the timing chain on the latter are cause for concern, but constitute of this update!

Last week I posted a blog about the Fuel Consumption of my BMW 116d LCI Efficient Dynamics Edition. It is comparable to the car of todays blog, the Volvo V40 D2 (MY2013) that we also own. Both cars are in the same class performance wise (BMW 116d: 116hp, Volvo V40 D2 115hp), and both belong to the class of premium compact cars. Moreover, altough the 116d is 4 years younger, both model types have been developed during the same time, and both cars sport 17-inch alloy wheels.

The only but important different is that the 116d has a 3-cylinder diesel engine, while the V40 D2 has a 4-cylinder diesel engine, which both are a 1.5 liter engine. 

Whereas I owned (at the moment of publishing the blog) the 116d for almost 3 years and 95.000 kilometers, the Volvo has been in our possession for 3.5 years and 135.000 kilometers. 

If you follow this link to Spritmonitor, you are able to see the (calculated) fuel consumption of the Volvo V40 D2 during the past 3.5 years and 135.000 kilometers. As you can see there, I averaged 5,26l / 100km during that time, with the lowest consumption of 3,49l / 100km and the highest of 6,25l / 100km. So I wasn't able to come anywhere near the 3,6l / 100km it says in the brochure, though it is nonetheless a very good result.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to hit the 1.200 kilometers on one tank like with the BMW 116d, but once managed to drive 1.008 kilometers on one tank (which is 3 liters larger with the V40 though).

In the video I did a test of the consumption at different speeds. Aim of this test is not to give an exact specification of the fuel consumption of this car, but to show an approximation of the fuel consumption under real life circumstances. As the result also depends on tyres, size of the rims, road condition, weather and equipment that may alter the exact weight of the car, your personal experience may differ from mine.
