The co-drivers view: driving fast on the Autobahn

Typical German stereotypes range from beer, bratwurst to Porsches and the Oktoberfest. But also the Autobahn is closely associated with Germany and German motoring. In this episode of "the co-drivers view" we drive on a typical stretch of Autobahn in northern Germany. Autobahn A1 runs from Heiligenhafen near the Baltic sea towards Saarbrücken near the French border, the complete lenght of the A1 being 732 kilometers (around 460 miles).

In this video we drive from Osnabrück northbound towards Bremen. This part of the A1 is slated for expansion from 2x2 lanes to 2x3 lanes. The German government has given this project the status of "additional demand", ranking behind the more urgent projects that have "priority demand".  Some of the parts on this stretch have already one extra lane while others still only have two lanes. On the two lane part there is a restriction of 130km/h (80mp/h) between 06.00 hours in the morning and 20.00 hours in the evening, but on the 3-lane stretches there is no speed restriction in place. As you can see in the video, there is still room on the Autobahn for fast driving on this magnificent road.

Car used: BMW 520d (F10 / MY2012)
