The co-drivers view: Kampen

Kampen is a municipality that counts 50,073 inhabitants (as of 2010) - the city itself has 34.063 inhabitans located in the Dutch province of Overijssel. In the video we drive over two bridges, as Kampen is located next to the river IJssel, which also is the reason why the city has a Hanseatic background (a commercial and defensive confederation of merchant guilds and market towns that dominated the trade in Northern Europe). Kampen has a well preserved historical town centre that includes remains of the ancient city wall (with three gates still standing) and numerous churches.

In the first video we start at the new train station "Kampen Zuid" near the newly build Hanzelijn that runs from Lelystad to Zwolle. After leaving the train station we turn onto the newly build roads including the "turbo-roundabouts" that include extra lanes to seperate traffic and accommodate the traffic flow. After having crossed the rivier IJssel twice we turn towards the historic city centre of Kampen.

Our journey continues in the second part of the video in which we drive through the historic city centre of Kampen. Many old buildings, the city wall, old gates that used to be the entrance to the city and small roads define the structure of this area.
